My iPhone’s Setup
Published:
This is what I have on my iPhone. For the past 2 years I’ve been using an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s a great phone with incredible battery life though it could do with more RAM and the camera was acting funny. I’ve just switched to an iPhone 13 Pro which I got from my mom who switched to an iPhone 16 Plus. So far it’s pretty good though the battery life could be better.
Given that I’ve just switched phones, I thought I’d use this as an oppurtunity to share what’s on my iPhone.
Finance and (Real) Utilities
- Starlink to manage the work’s WiFi. Doesn’t do everything but it’s useful enough.
- EcoCash for my EcoCash mobile wallet
- Omari for my Omari mobile wallet
- Bank of America for my Bank of America balances.
- Steward Bank for my Steward bank accounts. They changed everything and I need to figure out how to use it.
- Innbucks, which is only useful for change.
- Spar Rewards 2.0 for discounts at the supermarket.
- YoMix for discounts on mobile data on Econet’s network.
- XVRView for the work CCTV. It’s main competitor is…Prager U???
- TelOne to manage the backup ADSL internet at work.
- Dial-a-Delivery to deliver food in Zim.
Gaming
- Scriptic, an interesting game which is like a Netflix show. There are new shows now which I started playing but then my Netflix started acting up.
- Delta, a game emulator
- Xbox to connect to my Xbox Series X
- PlayStation App to connect to my PS4
- Steam just to log into Steam which insists on proprietary TOTP.
Travel
- Google Maps to get around, though I should try an open source alternative.
- InDrive for getting around the city though I should offer rides maybe.
- Vaya for rideshare
- Bolt for rideshare as well
- Google Translate to translate things while abroad, even pictures! Apple Translate isn’t half bad either.

- AirBnB which I have never used for travel but I plan to use for hosting guests at my mom’s house while she’s gone.
Productivity

- Collabra Office is the iOS version of LibreOffice. Haven’t used it yet.

- Mail for, err…e-mail. Don’t have a good reason to use anything else.
- Google Sheets in case I need to use it on my phone.
- Numbers since it makes working with spreadsheets using Apple Shortcuts easier.
- OneDrive to get the files I’ve stored there.
Utilities
- Bitwarden as my password manager. I also use Apple Passwords.
- Authy for TOTP codes.
- AdGuard Pro for ad-blocking on iOS.
- KDEConnect is a crossplatform utility like Handoff/AidDrop is on Apple Devices. I’ve written about it before.
- ConnectLife to see when my washing machine is done.
- Bose Connect because my QC35s need it.

- LinkedIn to apply for jobs, not like I’ve gotten any.

- Discourse just for the Hugo Forum
- Google Voice to call in the US. Doesn’t work for me anymore sadly.
- Lose It! to try and lose weight.
Media Creation
- Taio as my Markdown note taker. The free version is good enough.
- LumaFusion to edit videos. I wouldn’t have had to use this if iMovie wasn’t complete dogshit. It’s very capable on iPad though.
- GitHub to manage my git repos on my phone as well as to login. I should get passkeys.
- BlackMagic Camera to shoot videos, though I haven’t really used it though.
- Pythonista to program Python on iOS. I haven’t used it for a while but it’s pretty good. It even lets you hook into iOS software libraries. I’ve even made something with it.
- Halide to take better photos though I haven’t used it in a while
- WordPress to manage posts on my food blog The Conspicuous Consumer
- iSH brings a linux shell to iOS. Somehow passed Apple’s app review. I uploaded a post from it once.
- aShell is similar to iSH.
- Carnets (with scipy) provides Jupyter notebooks on iOS
- Twisted Wave to record podcasts
- Scriptable is a JS interpreter on iOS. There was Play.js which I made a site with once but it looks like they got aquired by some bullshit cloud service.

- Shazam to identify music.
- Celebration Church for the daily bible reading schedule.
- UE Roll since my UE Roll speaker needs it to work

- StopTheMadness to make the web more tolerable. There’s a pro version now.
- Web Inspector which is a web inspector on iOS.
Apps I Removed

- Western Union, don’t really need it.

- Filmic Pro, I don’t use it much anymore, especially since Blackmagic Camera has their app.

- BancABC 360 since I don’t really use them anymore.

- Bing, don’t really need it especially since I don’t play with its AI much.
- Brightline, since I didn’t get to use it.

- StoryGraph was a Goodreads competitor that I also removed since I don’t really use it.
- Editorial (from the guy who made Pythonista) is a great markdoiwn editor but it hasn’t been updated in 4 years and it really needs one. Sutre it was $5 but still…

- Notability
- Trello since it didn’t help me manage projects
- NFC.cool which I don’t use since I haven’t had to use something NFC

- Didi is ride share that’s only useful in South Africa

- MagicStamp. I don’t know why the coffee shop insists on using this instead of the usual stamped out card.
- Working Copy since iSh has Git unlike this app which charges for Git Push.
- Dash Docs for development documentation. It’s only on MacOS right now since the iOS was taken down by Apple and they stopped develoopment on the sideloaded version. You can try Dev Docs as a PWA. If you’re on Windows, try Zeal
