Watch Your Comparisons Lest You Compare Vaccines to the Nazi Regime

Published:

If you’ve had debates online, at some point Hitler comparisons will come up. This concept is known as Godwin’s law which falls under the banner of reductio ad hitlerum, something people have done since the 1930s.

It’s usually funny to see where things end up, but it can get dark real quick. Most recent case has to do with how the mass deployment of lifesaving COVID vaccines is akin to human experimentation by the Nazis. Each time some dipshit compares vaccines to the Nazi regime, the Auchuitz Museum replies with something like this:

Exploiting the tragedy of people who became victims of criminal pseudo-medical experiments in Auschwitz in a debate about vaccines, pandemic and people who fight for saving human lives is shameful. It is disrespectful to victims & a sad symptom of moral and intellectual decline.

Honestly, anti-vaxxers are on some serious bullshit, particularly those who try to compare vaccines to historic atrocities. This tweet, which the Auschwitz’s Memorial has to say over an over again [CW: Live Twitter Link 🤮], sums up my feelings. It’s also funny how people try to debate them on this. Like, if you’re debating the Auchuitz Museum, you should question your life choices.
