AVIF Has Landed

Google Chrome now supports AVIF images. It’s very impressive offering great quality images with small file sizes but it might not suit everything. To ensure maximum support, specify multiple images with the picture element for the browser to choose from.

I’m hoping to make a write up of my own for this. I’ve played around with it though ImageMagick and the file size reductions are massive. I’ve gotten as much as a third of the original file size. Sounds great but you should note that converting an image to AVIF takes a really long time.
