There’s this idea of The Great Divide which pits JavaScript-heavy developers against those focused on other areas of web development like HTML, CSS, design, accessibility etc. Essentially, developer responsibilities are becoming more focused on JavaScript and the tooling around it as opposed to the other elements that make up a website.
Coming back to Brad’s post, he describes how his job as a “frontend designer” which sounds like a bog-standard frontend developer but the domination of JavaScript is making him question that. He does find a place for his sort of developer however, creating consumable UI components that other developers can extend. Not too focused on the heavy lifting, just the interaction layer.
