One thing I’ve always wondered is why Igalia needs to fundraise in order to add features to browser engines owned by multi-million, multi-billion and multi-trillion dollar companies.

I head the answer before but it’s good to have it in one place. In short, despite those well-funded teams, they still need to prioritize many features as there is only a finite amount of time and budget.

Browser engines aren’t just used in browsers, they’re used in Bloomberg Terminals, streaming boxes and even for PlayStation’s interfaces. As such, other businesses can fund Igalia to give certain features attention, decentralizing browser development in the process.
