Attempting to Make Some Policies

Published:

I came across this file which seemed to be some rules for a YouTube chananel’s comment section I had planned to make. I might adopt it but here it is as it stands:

These guidelines just help outline this channel’s purpose.

Main idea is for this place to be a helpful, productive place. If you want flamewars and the like, go to Twitter:

  1. No snowclones (repeating funny replies)—first come first served.
  2. No racism, sexism, ablelism, homophobia, transphobia and the like.
  3. This is not the Eastern Front. If you insist on having incindiary internet debates, this is not the place.
  4. No derailing
  5. If you “well actually”, make sure it’s material to what’s being discussed.
  6. No harrasment, libel or illegal content.

I might add a rule on how I reserve the right to remove a comment for no reason.

I also found this as an ad policy:

Hey,

I’m glad you’re interested in sponsoring my content!

What I Won’t Advertise

The reason you want me to advertise your product is that I have built up a reputation which you’d like to lend. Given that my reputation is important, I won’t advertise the following unless you give me 12 billion dollars:

  • Anything to do with blockchain
  • Fossil Fuel Companies unless they’re announcing that they’re stopping oil extraction
  • Financial instruments
  • VPNs
  • Quackery and ED Pills
  • Palantir
  • Facebook Meta
  • AdTech
  • MLMs

Might add Raid: Shadow Legends as well.

I also found an attempt at making a style guide:

Links

Make link text as descriptive and natural. Avoid “click here” links. Since people expect linked text to be accessible text, you should indicate if that assumption might be wrong. If the linked page isn’t text, say so by specifying the content type and it’s size. [VIDEO 3:33], [PDF 12.4MB]. If there’s something unusual about a link, say so as well. Like it being an paywalled, located in an online archive.

Alt Text

Mandatory. Descriptive but brief, as if you’re describing the image over the phone. If the image is complex, the alt text must be a brief summary and there should be something nearby fully describing it.
