I watched this the other day and I wish more political debates were like this. Instead of gust arguing with each other and trying to pin a gotcha, you take time to understand each other’s points and focus on how best to achieve a certain goal.

Issue is, what if you fundamentally disagree? Like here, the person “opposed” to drug legalization wasn’t necessarily opposed to it but rather concerned about implementation. What if the question had to do with queer rights and one of the participants flat out rejected the notion they were worthy of anything?

I’d love if more debates were like this, but it won’t solve everything. It also doesn’t help when conceiding points somehow comes across as betraying a tribe rather than a sign of intellectual honesty.
