The other day I was happy that I got a bonus from work¹. A week later, I was shocked that it’s all gone. Throughout 2023, I got more money than I expected to and it’s all gone. Given that, I made a little FAQ to help me understand where it went to. I hope you enjoy!

Yes Farai, you did indeed spend all that money.

Well you had those big expenses which was about half.

True and that’s annoying, but you did see one of them coming, from many months ago.

But I had to lend someone money for something urgent.

Yeah and they paid you back, quicker than you needed them to even.

And I had to buy things for home.

Sure but you’re not paying rent and fuel. The least you can do is help out once in a while. Even with this you know that this wasn’t a big waste of money.

So where did all my money go?

To food and stupid shit. Did you enjoy it?

Not all of it.

Was it good value?

No.

Could you have gotten better things for that money you spent.

Yes.

Why didn’t you?

I didn’t plan for it.

You did plan no? What happened to that?

I wasn’t clear enough on what I wanted money to do for me.

Yeah that’s it. Don’t beat yourself down too much.

But I wasted so much money on shit I didn’t really enjoy.

Yeah that sucks, there isn’t much you can do about it but look at how you can change in the future.

But I’m worried that I won’t make it through the month.

Really now? You have savings to use and family to lean on! Heck, there are many times you needed cash in a pinch and you always had money you can access.

Think more carefully about how you spend your money. Let it work for you rather than having to work for it.
