This video goes into how the hype of string theory, evident by the science communication around it, resulted in the whole of physics not being taken seriously.
The main issue with the theory was that it wasn’t testable and it wasn’t even a theory since it was only backed by its own set of axioms. Given this, I guess we need to be careful about how technical things are explained to the general public.
Side note, I’m amazed at how she could give such an insightful lecture and play The Binding of Isaac at the same time.
